Back then I was doing everything right in terms of training and I never expected that I wouldn't make it, then wallop! From nowhere (well maybe from somewhere...) I was out with injury - 'over training' they call it! Hello, there a marathon fast approaching?! So the 2010 dream was shatteredLil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-46361004752921500152011-02-14T00:44:00.000+00:002011-02-14T00:44:53.295+00:00Saucony 10k TCRFirst race of the year completed! Didn't feel enthusiastic going into it - prob cos it was a dull, grey and drizzly day. But glad I got out there and got it over with! Dad was with me this morning, taking lots of photos and video footage as always - its a good thing I usually smile when I run!
They changed the route this year - it was just two laps instead of last years three, which was much Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-41720803088762473142010-11-07T22:59:00.000+00:002010-11-07T22:59:49.811+00:00Half Stevenage HalfGetting up this morning I knew today wasn't going to be a good day. I had to drag myself out of bed, force myself to eat, I felt nauseous all the way to the race, realised I hadn't taken my medication before leaving the house, and when I got there I was told the car park was full, then it wasn't. I finally got parked, grabbed my spare meds out of my bag and then it started to Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-58658987826998135132010-11-03T13:37:00.000+00:002010-11-03T13:37:43.073+00:00Ten Halves in 2010So I've done it! I've completed my personal challenge and run 10 half marathons in 2010; all for Scope! Scope have been brilliant along the way, sending me good luck cards and congratulations certificates and even post race massages and snacks! It's been a tremendous journey from my first half of the year; the Roding Valley Half where I ran 2:10:38, to my longest; the Reading Half where I had theLil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-22443634210756875332010-10-25T01:20:00.000+01:002010-10-25T01:20:54.409+01:00Birmingham HalfWhat a day! I won't go into all the drama I had with my car breaking down before the race, but I'll stick to the event and the run itself!
Another early start! Kick off was 09:00, which meant I had to get up at 05:30 to get up to Brum on time. For some reason they closed the baggage drop at 08:30, which didn't help, so I decided to forget the baggage drop completely and just head to the Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-60788311360206037442010-10-10T22:35:00.000+01:002010-10-10T22:35:33.825+01:00Royal Parks Foundation HalfWow! What an amazing race, maybe it was just the date; 10-10-10 has real significance for me, maybe because it's a few days before my birthday, maybe its just the symmetry of it. Either way I always knew this race was going to be special and that I would get a PB here.
It was another early start for me; the race start time was 09:30 and I was setting off from home so my alarm Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-88055040792687474552010-10-03T14:26:00.000+01:002010-10-03T14:26:54.781+01:00Bananaman Chase 10kThis is the second time I have ran this race and I have to say it was much better last year! Last year it was held in September, a week after the Women's Challenge if I remember rightly, and I was all psyched up from the PB I got there by the time race day came along. More importantly last year the sun was shining and it was a great day out, today, however, it rained. I must admit it was kind Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-6547168897039062292010-09-19T23:59:00.002+01:002010-09-20T14:04:41.438+01:00Great North RunI was really slack on the training going into this, in fact it was pretty much non existent! I think I did around 1-2 runs a week in the month running up to the race; going no further than 11km, and that distance I only did maybe twice. A far cry from my usual 55km per week! Needless to say a PB was not a probability today!
I drove up to Middlesbrough the night before the race and checked into Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-87795971101914904592010-09-09T21:14:00.000+01:002010-09-09T21:14:50.812+01:00Adidas Women's 5k ChallengeWhat an amazing day! This is my favourite race of the year; possibly because it's the first race I ever ran way back in 2007! This is where I caught the running bug; back then the race was sponsored by Lucozade and I made it through by running 3km twice a week and a half marathon wasn't even a pipe dream!
I always aim to do better than I did the previous year at this race and normally succeed by Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-91949891644580142832010-08-22T13:44:00.000+01:002010-08-22T13:44:23.409+01:00London Tri:edI've really struggled to write this, in fact I've been avoiding it for days. After missing the London Marathon due to injury, completing the London Triathlon meant the world to me. So to fail at the first hurdle was hard. To be fair I really shouldn't have even made it to the ExCel centre (where the event was being held) at all.
Around 10 days before London I began feeling dizzy and a Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-72623841735920730002010-07-19T00:23:00.000+01:002010-07-19T00:23:57.845+01:00NSPCC MK HalfThere was a lot of build up to today. Getting ready last night I realised my usual race gear was in the wash basket, so I did a last minute wash and managed to get my gear out to dry before bed. Then realised I was planning to wear my Scope running gear to an NSPCC event. Deciding I didn't want to be politically incorrect I changed my outfit last minute and went for Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-41029875604616639622010-07-11T18:44:00.000+01:002010-07-11T18:44:26.216+01:00Asics British London 10kWow it's been ages since I raced! I have to say I've missed it, but enjoyed the rest! I was actually due to run a 10k Race For Life in Milton Keynes a while back, but changed my mind on the day - just wasn't in the mood! Today wasn't like that though, today was a good day!
I went out for a long run last weekend and my ankle really twinged, so I stayed off it all week (running wise anyway). What is it with Transport for London and weekend tube closures? To get the 08:10 train to Shoeburyness for Fenchurch Street I had to be on a 06:30 bus from Wembley Park to Golders Green, catch a train from Golder Green to Bank and then walk 18mins to Fenchurch Street. To be honest I knew it said 06:30, but buses run so frequently in London I Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-52572057062756401792010-05-31T22:18:00.000+01:002010-05-31T22:18:07.243+01:00Bupa 10,000If I start from the top I'm going to have to tell you about my night out on the town with my bf & bff (boyfriend and best friend forever). Well let's just say it was a good night and even though we left early (02:30), by the time we'd stopped at Bagel Bites and grabbed something to eat it was after 03:00 when we returned to our hotel. I got up around 07:30, so a severe lack of sleep! I tried to pull a couple together last year, but my contact lists of runners was not that long at the time. Luckily I've made a few new runner friends this year (thank God for Twitter!), and when I mentioned that I wanted to run in a relay Kate piped up and said she had a space on a relay she'd planned in Edinburgh. I was seriously apprehensive coming up to this race. For the most part I tried to ignore it; just an innocuous date in my diary. Saturday arrived however and I left it to the last possible moment before getting my race gear ready for the morning ahead. It was an early start to get to Bracknell; I was up at 06:00 and on the road before 07:00. If I'm honest I was kinda dreading this run, I still have bruises all over my legs from the fall I took off my bike on Saturday and I spent the morning at A & E having my ankle checked out. That might not mean a lot to you, but to me it signifies something important; I completed Week One! I've had rough training programmes in my head and even had programmes drawn up for me by friends and coaches, but I've never stuck to them. I love the good things about this challenge, I'm drinking more water (3l today woohoo!), I'm eating more veg and leafy greens (at least one leafy portion a day) and I'm still getting all my yummy fruit in. I've been trying to use the fruit to replace all my indulgent snacks i.e. chocolates and biscuits. I've gone the good stuff, drunk lots of water and added in my leafy greens everyday. But cutting out the sweet stuff has been very hard, add in an argument with the bf and I may have had a minor binge fest on chocolate... And yes the fest lasted much longer than the argument or my anger did oops! Well today was a little crazy, I work up at 06:30, but decided that was way too early to get up on a Saturday morning. I woke again at 08:00 and text the bf to tell him I was up (he's working nights), I got up and went back to sleep quite a few times, always doing something in between, making a call, responding to emails etc. Lil' Ms Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06875355480716757403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3445579103930632763.post-81012044344430450412010-04-15T23:55:00.003+01:002010-04-16T00:14:48.885+01:00#i8this - Spring Clean LivingThis is an idea that came to me from a friend Donna (@donna_de) after a discussion about my poor eating habits and a suggestion from a male runner friend of mine who advised me that I needed to loose two stones...
